Individual Therapy

504503110Feel like you want to run away from yourself??

The only problem is that, wherever you go, you’ll be with yourself again.

Anxiety, depression, pain, guilt, hurt, shame…

They follow you around like a pesky cloud hovering overhead, always raining down hard feelings on you.

It can feel paralyzing. Some days you want to cry… other days, you’d like to tell everyone to eff off… or both.

Maybe you’ve been judged… or your feelings invalidated.

So, you started holding things in. You’ve probably noticed that it doesn’t work – that eventually, you feel like you’re going to explode. Unfortunately, there’s no release valve for how you feel.

A past client of mine, “Jamie,” felt like her mom was hypercritical of her when she was growing up. When Jamie came in, she talked about how she always felt like she just wasn’t doing a good job – like she was going to upset someone – like she could never win no matter how hard she tried.

Jamie had so much to offer personally, professionally, and socially, but she just couldn’t see the value she brought to the world. She knew in her head that she had accomplished a lot in her life, but she couldn’t believe in her heart that she was enough.

As a result, she jumped through hoops trying to prove her worth day in and day out.

256730119You don’t have to hold back in therapy.

You can say whatever is on your mind. And I mean… WHATEVER!

Your mom pissed you off?

Your partner won’t pick up their socks?

You really hate your boss?

Here, you can tell everybody to go eff off without hurting their feelings. You can speak freely without shame, judgment, or guilt.

This is where you can reflect on topics you may not always feel comfortable sharing in everyday life: Your doubts, your past, your struggles, your favorite movie, your dog… the options are endless!

In individual therapy (aka “one-on-one therapy”), we’ll explore anything and everything that is YOU. Whether you want to talk about your personal life, social life, relationships, work, or role as a parent, student, or friend, I’m here for you.

Let’s improve your navigation of life…

Feeling like you don’t have the right words can be tricky and frustrating. In therapy, you’ll learn to communicate freely and effectively with friends, family, and coworkers – even on “tough topics.”

You’ll also learn to regulate your emotions, be mindful about what you say, have more productive conversations, and develop solutions for daily life issues.

Sometimes a good talk is all we need.

Sometimes, having a listening ear or sounding board is great. Therapy can be a place to connect with somebody who actively listens.

Therapy can be a great place to flesh out thoughts or ideas you haven’t fully developed yet or get another’s perspective on challenging situations or decisions.

You got skills!

Learning coping skills to manage stress and emotions outside of session is vital. You’ll learn self-care techniques like deep breathing to self-soothe when you feel overwhelmed. It’s not as odd as it sounds! It helps calm your central nervous system, and we can even practice in session.

You’ll also learn to journal and use “homework assignments” to build insights on different topics we discuss in session.

Squash those pesky thoughts!

When you have negative thoughts, you might respond to them reflexively – without any awareness or scrutiny of what they are or where they’re coming from. In individual therapy, we’ll connect your head (what you know) and your heart (what you feel), using things like “mindfulness” to help you shift the way you think about yourself.

You’ll go from “I’m not good enough” to “I’m doing a great job.”

Let’s stop running… and start talking.

No more people-pleasing, questioning your judgment, doubting yourself, or neglecting your own needs…

Individual therapy is a safe space to make these changes, and I want to be a part of that experience.

Whatever obstacles or challenges you’re facing, bring them in, and let’s find solutions so that you can start living the life you want and deserve.
